| Our Mission: Empowering families within their community and children within their family |
|
SKIP was created to provide a family-focused, multi-disciplinary approach for each child. We do not focus on a diagnosis. We focus on the whole child. Our staff consists of highly-skilled and experienced therapists, early education teachers, and family resource coordinators. They work as a team, along with families, to help each child reach their full potential. These providers coach families and caregivers to recognize and utilize learning opportunities which occur during typical family routines in settings where children live, learn, and play.
| Guiding Principles of SKIP |
- Parents are a child's first and most important teacher.
- SKIP believes that the family is the cornerstone in a child's development.
- Services to children ages birth to three include providing parents and caregivers with strategies and activities to incorporate into their child's daily routines.
- We share information about child development and the tools parents need to feel supported as their child's primary teacher.

| What is Early Intervention (E. I.)? |
- Services begin with a developmental assessment of your child in all of the following areas: Expressive/Receptive Communication, Social/Emotional, Adaptive, Cognitive, and Gross/Fine Motor Skills
- If your child is eligible (demonstrates a 25% delay in at least one area), we will meet with your family in your home to develop an Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP) to address the hopes, dreams, and concerns you have for your child.
- Every family is paired with a Family Resource Coordinator (FRC) and a Primary Coach from a team that includes an Early Education Teacher, Speech/Language Pathologist, Occupational Therapist, or Physical Therapist.
- The Primary Coach is selected based on their professional expertise and the desired outcomes of the family.
- Coaching is an interactive process in which the primary service provider offers parents and caregivers the tools, support, and information they need to facilitate the development of their child.
- SKIP provides inclusive parent/child playgroups. Parents are active participants in all playgroup activities in which they are enrolled. This offers an environment for parents to practice new skills with the support of peers and professionals.
| Where are Early Intervention Services Provided? |
|
SKIP provides early intervention services in a child's natural environment, defined as "settings that are natural or normal for the child's age peers who have no disabilties." Natural environments can include the home, daycare, and community settings.
|
| Who Pays for SKIP? |
SKIP is partially funded through government and school district contracts, fundraising, and donations. SKIP is required to bill Medicaid and family insurance, and to collect co-pays, co-insurance, and deductibles. Once insurance benefits are maximized for the year, services are provided at no cost to the family until their benefits are renewed. |
Referrals may come from anyone. The most common referrals come from parents, physicians, public health nurses, and other public agencies.
